One of the most sublime pieces of contemporary religious music, by estonian composer Arvo Pärt.

Make sure to watch this in high quality as the sound is in stereo.

Your academic knowledge does not qualify you to judge the beauty of a song. It is the equivalence of saying that you need a degree in food science in order to tell what tastes good.

  • In my very humble opinion, the greatest of all living composers.

  • @Musorgsky good answer

of course, not at the same time. I've listed some techniques, which was used by these composers. For example, Boulez has music composed in aleatoric technique, and music composed in serial technique. Not at the same time, of course.

  • @Musorgsky What the hell? It can't be serial and aleatoric at the same time. Aleatoric music began as a reaction against serialism.

  • @Musorgsky While acknowledging the needless foolishness of what I am about to say, I have to say that Gorecki and others as you say sound similar to Part. But they lack the distinct sorrow and beauty that is prevalent in so much of Parts work. They are different people, and different souls make different music. When I need healing I always turn to Part. There is similar music but there is only one Part.

  • @Anontalkwarrior Good answer, love!

    Cheers!

  • Just amazing! Arvo Part is a proof that even after all these centuries of Western music, less can be more.

No. Their music is atonal, serial, aleatoric, sonoristic, etc. In one word it can be called non-consonant music or experimental or avant-garde music.

But there is music of John Taverner and Henryk Gorecki. And their music is like Part's music. For example, you can find on youtube "Sanctus" by John Taverner or famous Symphony #3 (Sorrowful Songs) of Gorecki.

Part, Taverner, Gorecki are the most prominent representatives of contemporary sacred music.

  • @Musorgsky The artists you are talking about, are they a bit like arvo part??
