  • Thanks, HAV. I've changed the last line: "He'll take your heart And tear it apart So why not take ALL of him."

And I do sing it in the car! Nothing like the inestimable Billie, of course -- she was the best!

  • @001Tara1 Funny and Clever. ha ha ha

  • one of the best voices ever she sings from her soul.

  • LOVE Billie! In tribute, suitably inspired by a recent jerk in a relationship, I redid the words: (Yes, you can use them if you give me credit! Contact me) All of him Why not take all of him? Can’t you see I’m SO good without him? Take his lies, He’s a confuser. Lizard eyes … He’s such a loser. His goodbyes Left me without his lies I’ve gone on And found someone new. You can have his heart And more, for a start … So girl, you just take all of him.
  • Session #43 New York, 21/March/1941, Eddie Heywood and his Orchestra (OKeh)

Shad Collins (tp) Leslie Johnakins, Eddie Barefield (as) Lester Young (ts) Eddie Heywood (p) John Collins (g) Ted Sturgis (b) Kenny Clarke (d) Billie Holiday (v)

    This take is (MT47)

Both takes are phenomenal and show BH's way with a melody. Each vocal is different and uniquely gorgeous.

  • @IsobelSturgeon That is Lester Young on sax. This take was featured on a Lester Young compilation. It wasn't released on 78 because it ran over (because of that long, lovely sax solo). Sorry, I don't remember the drummer and no longer have the vinyl.

  • Could you post the rest of the band members, please? I think this has Teddy Wilson on piano (my fave) and could that be Lester Young on sax? Who's on drums?

  • thumps up if you're leaning on your elbow while listening to this! :)

  • a friend of mine Rosie used to tour with her.. a blessed woman, indeed...

yet.. this same awesome woman I have not talked to in over a year, I lost touch,

had her house burned down, daughter tricked her out of the prior house, and her other two children died within a few short years of each other..

    Lady sing the blues..

I hope you are okay, dear Rosalie, wherever you are..... virtual HUGS !!!!!

  • fab...i quote from what rod stewart said in a live show..."i did it first who did it better" if billie was alive she could have said the same thing.... and she did do it better
