When the phone was invented, nobody could see practical applications for that. See how far we've taken it? I remember that in the 90´ was hard to understand the practical use of a computer to do things like graphic design, we use to have to type so many commands to just draw a freaking circle... not to talk about internet, almost nobody use to understand what Internet was... gosh!!! and that technology now it is almost the fundamental base of economy and many other things. Something very similar will probably going to happen with quantum physics.

the beam is moving very fast now , and if the magnets which are controlling the direction of this beam fail........the beam will travel anywhere breaking the tube and again the liquid helium will and flood the tunnel.the beam now will go outside the tunnel and go underground cutting the earth or it will go to the surface and make a massive damage. we are talking here fractions of a second.before this people could hit the stop button , they are already dead !
