A 1:39 lap of Thunderbolt in a 1098cc Climax engined 1959 series 1 Lotus 7. This got me on to the front row of the qualifying race, and will probably be tough to beat in a similar car.
but in all reality, it's a terribly hard corner to maneuver... they don't call it the jersey devil for nothing. thanks for pointing out that crucial piece of information, simon. every little bit to keep me more aware.
@simonwtusa very good reasons to take the line you did :) ironically, i was with a friend in a 2008 lotus exige s240 while negotiating those turns. after the multiple apex, we would head straight for the cone, brake hard, cut the wheel right which would set us up to be on the outside of the left turn at 1:32 in your video, we found we could carry a lot more speed through that corner.
@agmooreez Generally speaking, you'd be right. Two things changed that on the day. First, I was driving a lightweight, low power car where momentum rather than application of power out of the turn determines lap speed. Secondly, this was the second day of the inaugural race weekend for the track...the outer part of that turn had much less grip that day due to the fresher surface and loads of clag...and DUST. So the lesson is to take care using the "perfect line" when actual conditions vary.
the left turn after the long sweeping multiple apex right, you would have carried a lot more speed if you had stayed on the outside and brought in tight at the late apex 1:32
