Truly wonderful to hear a U.S. Congressman speak in support of Darwin Day and science as honorable and valuable. Now we just need to elect a few hundred more like him.

Oh, you are not going to get an argument from me that teachers are a huge part of a successful education system. How many teachers do you know that are afraid to speak up to make a change in what they know to be a broken system? I know half a dozen people that would love to go into the profession but refuse to because it is not only so broken but there is little chance that it will ever change.

Yes, i-pads are great. I have one myself. The question was did we spend the 38,000.00 in the best way? One of the teachers stated "Now the kids can look up a word on the internet to find it's definition" Really? Meanwhile the kids do not even know how to use a dictionary. Don't tell me the schools need more money and then waste it like this. Is an i-pad really necessary for a 7 year old to get a good education?

Teachers are exactly what makes the system great! The system doesn't exist w/o them.

And yes, ipads are great learning tools. Great apps and they are interactive. You really have got to get out more!

    WHOAH!!!

Do not begin to presume that just because I do not care for the public school system that I have anything against the teachers. They are not one and the same. I grew up next door to two great Seattle School teachers... that doesn't make the system great. I have heard their horror stories of the bureaucracy that you seem to love so much. The local elementary school here spent $38,000.00 on i-pads at the begging of the year. Would you say that the was the best way to spend that money?

You need to get out of your bubble a little more. There is a real world out there to explore.

Public schools do GREAT work day in and day out! It's sad to hear the level of contempt people of your ilk have toward highly dedicated people that go to work every day and work against all odds only to be berated by ignorant poll readers. I am grateful for our teachers!

I wouldn't give you a plug nickel regarding what you believe to be right. People burned witches because they believed it was right.

I find it hard to believe that your kids went to "a great public school." The United States is currently ranked 48th out of 133 developed and developing nations in quality of math and science instruction. I believe that we should be free to teach our children what we as parents believe they should learn. What right wing BS are you referring to? The right to think and believe in what we believe to be right? One of the problems I see with the left wing is we are only free to believe as they do.
