This was shot by Larry Jon's friend Lynn Rabren, for a minute I thought I shot it, but I'm sitting in the front row...neat trick!

"Think I want to be alone today,
thanks for asking anyway,
If I get drunk or if I pray,
either way I'm on my knees
think I want to be alone today
ol Mickey passed away
and it made my skies feel cold and grey
and I ain't much company,
probably ought to be alone"

Larry Jon Wilson, a national treasure, a songwriter of untouchable grace and depth. He is a rare constructor of song, one moment you are laughing and the next breath crying.

Plus he was just the coolest guy. I only met him twice but will never forget him, he was a catalyst for laughter and lit up a room with music and light, a troubadour with a huge heart, a southern boy through and through and a laugh your ass off story teller.

Larry Jon wrote this song when his friend Mickey Newberry passed and now Larry Jon is gone and it becomes even more poignant. Thank you Lyn Rabren for your beautiful shooting in 2007 at the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival in Florabama which is where I met Larry Jon. He is without a doubt one of the most beautiful and talented souls I've ever met.

  • So very special - thank you always larry jon; you are remembered

  • Such an amazing person and artist. He was one of the unknown treasures in the music biz. RIP.

  • Larry Jon Wilson was a great song writer. I had the pleasure of knowing him, and will cherish his memory. He played "Loose Change" for me in his room at the Edgewater Inn in Seattle Washington to see what I thought. He said he always wanted to write a country song in 3/4 time and "Loose Change" was the result. Needless to say, I liked it. God bless Larry.

  • Larry Jon is the BEST ! There is no one who can sing a story like Larry Jon ! I wish I could have had the opportunity to sit & talk with him, even if it were for few minutes. I do have the privilege of a B'day wish from him that a friend of mine got for me, signed on a napkin, it said "Happy On You Jaybird" ! What a neat way to say Happy B'day. I carry the tradition of "Happy On You" God Bless you Larry Jon Wilson Family !

  • Larry Jon is... was... is... a genuine legend, one of the great treasures of American music. Your beautiful clip entirely does him justice, and will remind – or explain to – everyone who sees it just how terribly he and his music will be missed. My best wishes to his family members and all of those who, like I did, loved him and his music so very much.

    Thanks for posting.

  • so sad to hear of his passing away, it's been a few months now that I happened to stumble on a few of his videos and I was blown away by his artistry, he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered !
