Jim Hall - guitar. Bob Brookmeyer - valve trombone. Bath Festival 1987. The tune is 'I Should Care'.
From the days when the BBC used to broadcast some jazz occasionally.

  • @icecreamforcrowhurst - Someone thought it was an Attila Zoller pickup by Shadow.

  • I was there in 1987 - never forget it, pure enjoyment

  • @alveyman - I was there too! The only time I've seen Jim Hall.

  • Yes this is an Attila Zoller pickup. Attila - who was a good friend - also designed the pickup on Jim's ES-175. SO you're hearing a Zoller pickup on pretty much all of Jim Hall's recordings.

I was fortunate to have sat in a hotel room and listened to a great argument on pickup design between Attila and Tal Farlow ( who knew a few things about electronics). One of the great inventions - the Zoller pickup.

  • RIP

  • very nice!

  • R.I.P. Bob Brookmeyer (December 19, 1929 – December 16, 2011)

One of my favorite albums is his duo with Jim Hall "Live at the North Sea Jazz Festival" (from around this same time I think). I saw Bob at Jazzfest in Cleveland circa 1981, and have seen Jim play numerous times over the last 30 years in NYC (I even got to open for him and Ron Carter at Jazzfest in 1991!) but never had the pleasure to see them perform together. Thanks for posting this great video by two great masters!

  • @icecreamforcrowhurst that's so good to hear. i saw jim at birdland last year i think in february or so, and i was very let down by his playing. i had seen him before (i guess 2 or 3 years before that, at the blue note with ron carter) and he was incredible, but after seeing him last year at birdland i sorta assumed his age had become an issue. good to know that's not the case and i probably just caught him on an off night.

  • @grahambop I saw him last week at Birdland, NYC (w/ Greg Osby, Steve LaSpina and Joey Barron) and I'm happy to report that at 80 years young and in spite of some physical infirmity he still plays great A beauiful spirit and musician- as is clear in this vid. One of the understated greats of jazz guitar, his influence on guitarists will be felt and heard for a long time to come.

  • What's that crazy pickup Jim's got on his D'Aquisto there?

  • @kohg85 Live at North sea festival is a great one!

  • hey, can anybody recommend some albums with these two greats?
