  • The Murdochs are the biggest threat to a true democracy worldwide, as they attempt to control all forms of media, make it totally censored with their horrendous agenda and cheap tabloid nonsense stories and make people pay for the privilege of reading it. Just look at Glenn Beck in America and the vile stories run by The Sun in the UK (such as the Hillsborough Disaster being the fault of Liverpool fans, something Liverpudlians have never forgiven them for) and you'll see what I mean.

  • yep.. its all about the money.. Jame$

  • the BBC licence is worth EVERY PENNYdo we really want FOX/MURDOC news to dominate British news too? they are hard trying to they started with their BS "free newspapers" FREE? they may turn out to be the most EXPENSIVE NEWSPAPERS we ever had in Britain costing us our freedom anything worth more? murdoc never got a penny of mine if i buy a paper its the Guardian no itv news BBC/channel 4 as for he sun its out free most summer days i Live in Liberal n fair UK. hate to think the UK turning into usa

  • If the BBC should be smaller then so should Sky. It has far too much power and is chilling. They should also get rid of this criminal as their chairman.

  • Not going to happen, James

  • So both Beeb and Murdoch group are crap -- what's new. The answer to Murdoch is, stop your whining and write decent TV and newspapers that don't rely on the devil himself to get headlines. But my guess is you don't give a s**t about quality, in which case, you probably won't. If so, put up or shut up.

  • The BBC earns £4.6billion a year, compared to the average earnings of a Freeview broadcaster (around £3.3million).

Obviously he doesn't make mention of how much of that £4.6million was made through the BBC's commercial interests.

  • Rupert Murdoch! Explain how The New York Post refuses to report the news -- historical news that Mike Bloomberg was booed relentlessly and shouts of Tammany Hall were screamed at him during his speech at the Triangle Shirt Factory where young women, immigrants died horrific deaths. Shame on The New York Post for your black out of historical news on the 100 year anniversary and for banning me from commenting on the NY Post = censorship! Shame on you!

  • What is wrong with the BBC having commercial interests James? Its a good thing that the BBC can make extra money using its high-quality products to reinvest back into what they create, meaning that the taxpayer gets a much better deal overall and the rest of the world can can enjoy British tv output as well. BSkyB on the other hand is a disgraceful monopoly, and and it's Newscorp parent is a facist, openly sexist and massively hypocritical conglomerate that no one likes.

  • @SoA990 Plus Fox has been part of the dumbing down of culture thanks to their stupid reality shows like American Idol and idiotic shows like World's Wildest Police Videos and dumb crap like that which most TV seems to be modeled off of nowadays.

  • He's just upset that he can't get away with manipulating the public like his father's company has done to the United States. I know that because I unfortunately live here amongst the far-right idiots Fox News has brought into the limelight of American society. I don't think he and Rupert will be happy until they control the entire world's media. I like BBC News' high quality and any UK citizen who doesn't want to turn the UK into a smaller America shouldn't support Murdoch's empire.

  • The state is a service, just like a business. It caters to the demand of the populous (and gets paid for it), so there is no way that he can lumber on it "oh this hasn't got anything to do with business, it's not the states job to do this." The beauty of a thing such as the BBC, is that there is no advertising and so it has no ulteria motive apart from to serve the people for the people.
