Becca Deehr, Policy Director, Feet First. Newcomers to Seattle quickly observe the city's planning culture, which prioritizes collaborative decision making and citizen involvement. Seattle is also known for its supportive infrastructure for walking and bicycling. This session will highlight two trail development processes, one in West Seattle and one in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle, which is located within a power line easement that connects schools, community gardens, and low income housing. Discussion will include wayfinding systems that encourage walking, lessons learned from the engagement process, and the agency process leading to the creation of new trails.
