Complete idiot.. I live here, ten miles from the falls. It is ignorance like that, that get people killed. Not just the jackass that jumps in the water, but the rescuers that have to go get them. This is pure stupidity!!

When I was a kid you were allowed to swim above the falls. We had to be careful not to lose focus because of the current. Now that I am old and hopefully wiser, I would never swim there!

Back in the late 70's we spent several days at the falls. Back then, there weren't so many restrictions and most people spent the day lying in the water above the falls... totally awesome. Too bad a combination of stupidity & liability has taken that joy away. Last time I was there, just a few years ago, I ventured behind the falls... it's well worth the effort and I would recommend it, although not for small children. Wonderful place, full of fond memories for me.
