VELVET RED SWORD TAILS

Velvet Red Swordtails are TROPICAL FRESH WATER FISH (Xiphophorus hellerii in family Poeciliidae of order Cyprinodontiformes). A live-bearer, it is closely related to the southern platyfish or "platy" (X. maculatus) and can interbreed with it. It is native to an area of North and Central America stretching from Veracruz, Mexico, to northwestern Honduras.

In this video -- we take you through the process of getting the fish out of the tanks at the Pondscape HQ, transporting them to the store and stocking the tanks.

----

I - the creator of this video -- run Pondscape -- where as Ocean Design is one of our clients. In short -- this isn't my store :-)

They carry a diverse selection of quality freshwater fish & live plants. Some are provided by Pondscape and some are not. Some are provided by other private breeders. Their fish are carefully monitored daily and treated when necessary. Ocean Design Aquarium stocks Cichlids which are originally nativeto Africa, South America and Central America.

They also stock many live bearers, Tetras, Gouramis and Plecostemus/catfish. A variety of odd balls such as Knife Fish, Arrowanas, Rainbows and many others.

They carefully hand select many of their fish including fancy Goldfish and Koi (which is just another more fancy type of Goldfish).

Sometimes they do not have certain fish in stock if they cannot locate healthy specimens. Quality is chosen over price and or quantity. Shipments of freshwater fish are received weekly and shipments of beautiful live plants 2 to 3 per month.

  • SwordTail Bong! Good for smoking that Hydro Sea Weed! *rofl*

  • inter-woven links!!!

  • @RappyMcRapperson yeah well i do my best to include all relevant info in the more info sections of my vids, whenever i can :)

  • @pondscape heck ya. Fish rule. Very relaxing.

  • @RappyMcRapperson Not relaxing for me. More like - a fun challenge :) I am very interactive with my fish and its fun seeing what you can get them to do. See how much bigger you can get them than the text books claim they can go. How much more you can bring out their colors. What species you can convince to get along with each other that normally would kill each other :) When u experiment with the genetics & psychology of fish, u figure out how to improve them a lot :)

  • @RappyMcRapperson I've got videos up showing Convict Cichlids getting along with guppies and sword tails. Surely this falls under the "don't try this at home!" category because normally the Cichlids would kill the guppies and sword tails :D

  • We are also looking for "energy saver uv lighting". Does that exist? I've only seen fluorescent UV lighting. Fish and plants require both UV and "white light" or "soft light" as its called -- and this is easy and we will be migrating from white / soft light fluorescents to energy saver bulbs. We use energy saver bulbs just about everywhere else in the house :)

  • Yes, we are very careful. We are in the process of building this as its own seprete room with an "in door pond" in there and everything :D The electrical stuff is going to be mounted safer and "out of the way" and we are also installing a new breaker for a new electric feed with a 10 gauge wire to avoid any electrical fires due to over heating or anything. though we do tend to use as energy efficient hardware as we can.

  • When I watched your video at 2:00 I was wondering about all the plugs on the ground with all that water....

    Be careful...

    nice video
