Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias) and diving ducks in the early morning fog at Trinity River Wetland Cells near the Joppa Community on October 30, 2011. This chain of wetlands extend from I-45 to Loop 12 in Dallas. Part of the Great Trinity Forest and Trinity River Project. The wetlands serve a vital role in flood protection both upstream and downstream. The far treeline in the video is where White Rock Creek joins the Trinity River. The Texas Horse Park is beyond the far trees to the east. This area was once the Sleepy Hollow Country Club and was converted into a series of wetland marshes in 2005. The area is open to the public, private motorized vehicles are not allowed. In the winter these wetlands are home to thousands of migratory fowl and even a pair of bald eagles in 2009 and 2010.
