Song 2 of my "May 9 for 2009" (see channel for bulletin info)

Tuning: Open G (DGDGBD)

"China Pig" is one of the Captain Beefheart covers from the "Party of Special Things to Do" EP. It is one of my favorites--particularly for it's simplicity and exceptionally lo-fi recording sound. I recorded a few versions, all with different little bluesy trills in spots, but I decided on this one mostly for its straightforward sound.

Enjoy.

  • Is this in open G tuning?

  • @dnon75

    yes.

  • @WonderLure42 Are you playing it exactly the same way as in Trout Mask Replica? 'Cause I want to learn how to play this song, but the original way

  • @luisexuperion No, not quite the same.

  • @luisexuperion By the way, regarding slideguitar, that in _Beefheart's_ recording(Doug Moon on guitar) there is regular slides and no slideguitar technique involved im pretty sure.

  • @luisexuperion I play Beefhearts song in standard tuning, A minor, and it sounds pretty right. I tabbed the intro pretty much as it is, then just add some nice hammer on/pulloffs along with the song, and use the bottleneckslides of course. I might do a guitarpro tab of the main thing of it, I'll let you know if I'll do it! Very nice cover by the way WonderLure42. Thumbs up!

  • @WonderLure42 Yeah ur version is really good. Ive been trying to play the song the original way but i just cant get the blues licks in between the chords to sound good. they involve alot of bending, hammer ons and pull offs at the same time. I'm also not sure what kind of guitar to use (acoustic or electric). anyway if uve got any tips or if ur interested in playing it ive got the tab so just msg me.

  • great!

  • Cool. I like the slide at the biggining
