whether or not I believe this is right, the whole point of the song is to mock religion. "Im a mormon and I just believe" isn't some sort of mantra for religion it is blatantly mocking the blind belief religion inflicts on so many americans.

Most likely, if the black man lived in Missouri while Joseph Smith was there he would have been owned by a Mormon.

If he was not actually owned by a faithful Mormon the Mormons would not have taught him or preached to him (D&C Section 134:12).
