You present a good point there. However the powers that be have decided otherwise, despite the fact that SK is able to defend themselves. Keep in mind that the two countries are still at war with each other since the Korean War started. SK wants the US there to supplement and bolster their defenses (in addition SK does have US weapons and equipment to complement Sk made ones), combined with ominous signs in the NK media and paranoia on both sides of the border.

Tell that to the South Koreans who have advocated that the US start drawing down on its presence, America obliged and started to do so. Less than a day later of the announcement South Korean government officials started asking that the US standby S Korea as a friend and ally. SK still wants the US to bolster their defenses against any aggression from NK, even though they have 4x the population, 3x the finances and 2x the instructure and transportation networks as NK. Thus NK is OVERRATED.

Be careful South Korea. Although the North ran with their cowardly tail between their legs, they claim you're going to pay! It's really too bad that the Kim family has nearly destroyed North Korea because of their pure selfishness and unwillingness to let go of power.

NK doesn't have a prayer when it comes to Naval warfare. NK's only hope is that China's Navy backs them up. NK's strength is their army which has a pretty good chance of reaching Seoul. Just the mere NK numbers will exhaust any machine gunner. I feel sorry for those exhausted fingers pulling the trigger(cramps). SK should move their capital to the South. The proximity to NK is ridiculous.

S.Korean gorvernment is promoting to move capatal to the South. (Seoul->Sejong Special Autonomous City)

but S.Korean public opinion isn't want to move capital.

they're worried about Economy powers-weakening and Seoul is long-time(600 year) capital of Korea(Ancient korea's capital was Seoul(HanYang))

and.. when add a joke, S.Korean citizen are not worried about NK's millitary power -__- K

Don't count the SK just yet, the SK military and defense budget easily equals the NK. However the similarities end there. SK has 4x the population, 2x the finances, more infrastructure and transportation capabilities than that of NK. In NK the military personnel makes 1:3-4 persons of the total population. The only clear advantage that NK military has in terms of conventional weapons are a higher number of tanks, air craft, helicopters and service ships. SK is able to offset this advantage.

This is more than the US-North Korea hatred. Ever since the armistice of 1953, the rising tension and the paranoia among the two Koreas lead to the situation we face today. Combine that with the North's propaganda state controlled media to 'start the fire going'

The translation is a little vague, since the spokesman obviously stated more than those three phrases
