Tour de Palm Springs 2011 Part I of II

FOR 2012 the route was modified. The first rest stop should be greatly improved. The course will be a little flatter, but essentially the same distance.

Instead of the "Worst Day of the Year Ride" in Portland we headed south to the warmth and sun of the Tour de Palm Springs. This charity ride benefits charities throughout the Coachella Valley. The community support of this ride is incredible. Despite a few bad roads and an unusual number of flat tires, the ride is one I'd highly recommend . Let's face it. It was nice to get out of the rain and cold for a few days. This is a virtual guide to the ride. Part I of II from the start to the 4th rest stop at mile 71

Thanks, Marty. I started out doing the 100 mile ride, but turned around at about mile 9 after several sandblast sessions. Wind and rain . . . . no problem. Wind and blowing sand not so much. Maybe some eye protection would have helped. In any event, we turned back and decided to do the 25 mile ride power style. We had a great time and were fortunate to join forces with an exceedingly strong woman rider from Victoria, BC while heading home against the wind on the back nine. Video to follow

Hey Cannondale1950:Very nice video (pt 1 & 2) and narrative of the 2011 Tour de Palm Springs. I think you do a good job capturing the flavor of the ride and your technical info is right on. The 2012 ride was this past weekend. Did you go and if so, did you film? It was terribly windy but my squad of 35 or so stuck it out and after the first hellish 8 or 9 miles we had a great ride! Thanks again for the excellent videos.
