Only Hank could have taken this 2 bit song and recorded the definitive version - live - and even the much maligned Miss Audrey has to take credit, her less than 100% vocals actually add to this.

  • Miss Audrey was the only woman who sounded like she belonged

when she and Hank did a duet. Yes i've heard others ,but Miss Audrey

is the best and if you dont believe listen to them do "Dear Brother".Her vocals

have been kicked from stem to gudgeon, but damn i love them. Hank needs

no praise,, he was only perfect.

  • @MrBillfitz It's when she does solos that something odd happens, in my opinion anyway. But as part of the backing, especially for the Gospel songs, she then did very well.

  • @james28570 yes he did i miss him he was my cousin he will be missed

  • I don't know what you mean by "two bit." This is a heartbreaking song. There's a reason that its popularity was so far reaching. Another one is "I Fought the Law." My cat has a cover version of that one on YouTube.

  • hmmm maybe i should buy some of that mothers cornmeal

  • If only he didnt die at such a young age I would of loved to hear more songs form him

  • best music ever.

  • Hes the best

  • Beautiful people

  • dang, getting hungry here for some cornbread

  • @pattypork We sang it too when I was in second grade, in 1972! The rest of it goes: "It roll 'cross the table and onto the floor. And them my poor meatball rolled out of the door. It went down the sidewalk and under a bush, and now my poor meatball is nothin' but mush." (And then a coda set to a tune that isn't part of the original song.) "So if you eat spaghetti all covered with cheese, hold on to your meatball and don't ever sneeze!"
