Our dog is sick and we don't know what is wrong. He is a 10 month old Australian Shepherd. He growls and snaps at his left hind foot, which twitches alot. The vets don't know what is wrong. Please help if you've seen something like this!
I'm going to check with our neurology resident at MSU. I remember seeing a video of this first year but can't remember what it's called. I'm pretty sure the vet who thought it was spinal is a quack. I'm definitely thinking something cerebral. I'll get back to you once I hear from the resident.
maybe he's trying to over come his own will of scratching. maybe he knows he shouldnt scratch but his foot wants to. and now he's growling at it to stop... i dunno just a guess
Really sad...generally thought to be neurological or psychological - are you working with a veterinary behaviorist?

It looks a bit like a light case of Syringohydromyelia. Has he been rubbing his head on the floor or sofa? Or scratching his left ear a lot?

This looks an awful like the dog on the video "Playful dog growls at his own foot"
