Thunderstorm NL 2009-05-26, 4:00 am

Last night, a really heavy thunderstorm broke loose above the entire the Netherlands. I've spoken with many dutch people about it today, and everyone experienced it as it seems. I decided to make a recording of it, because the lightning sequence was pretty weird. It went like: flash, flash, flash, flash, bright flash, flash, flash, flash. etc...

The video doesn't really show the flashes, because the less visible flashes simply don't appear, but if I tell you that there were about 2 flashes every second, and it nearly didn't become black, then you can guess how much it flashed... Normally in the region I live, the thunderstorms are very small. I get one or two big bangs, and thats it. This was far more than just that. I actually had the feeling that there were 5 or 6 thunderstorms going on at once.

For those of you who've seen the movie War of the Worlds, the lightning strikes (delay of flashes) are about the same, except that the lightning wasn't striking at the same location every time :P This video has been recorded after the most severe point in the storm though, I was still a bit sleepy while the storm raged.

Final note: This movie has been recorded using my digital camera, and also the sounds are from that source. I've edited the video and enhanced the sound by applying EQ to it. Sounds pretty realistic most of the time, just not the entire time. All sounds are from the storm.

I remember this one, I was terrified! It sounded like earth was collapsing. We really had a lot of those storms during that period. I wished i lived somewhere else that time XD Thanks for sharing!

Fireworks are nice, pyrotechs are cool, but ain't nothing like God's light show.Thank Heaven you guys didn't have any twisters.

Yeah, although when I looked at the road the next morning, It looked like several twisters had been going through our country. Lots of trees lost some of their branches and some even had to give in. There was a huge traffic jam too. I did 2,5 times to get to work than usual.

I was living in a trailer in Moordrecht when this t-storm broke loose, damn it was like hell, that whole tralier was shakend by those heavy thunderclaps, my cat was so scared, she was hanging in the curtains a couple of times, lol.

Thunder storms are fun to watch, as long as they don't fry your electronic equipment. :D.

whoa thats a a goer! lol i live in south east uk and i wish we had got that storm it looks wkd! nice one!

It seems that the LQ version actually shows it better than the HQ version. Weird XD It blurs a bit more, but thats a nice compensation for the noise my camera adds due to the insufficient light sources. The sound also seems better because its already HQ. The difference isn't that much though.

Also: I've heard reports that this storm also was noticable in germany and belgium.
