Through a a twist of fate, I'm now training with Xu Wen-qian, the top Long-Fist grand master in China. During my first few years of training he'll teach me Traditional Kung Fu (Tong Bai Chuan, shown here), then once i'm ready, he'll teach me Long Fist.
This video was taken in my first month of training, and I look really bad. I'm much better now.

  • this guy is having you on !

  • @g888 什么意思?

  • Hello there. How are you doing now? Now that you are advanced. Any suggestions for someone who wants to begin, such as myself? I've started learning the Islamic style of long fist, Cha Chuan. But due to my schedule, I can not study and train often as I should and want to. Any suggestions, as for what to look for into different schools?

  • I've only got a bit of experience in this area, but from what I've learned, a real teacher will make you learn the basics first. They'll put you in a corner to stand and breath, or make you throw the same punch 300 times for several months before they teach you anything else. The basics aren't exciting, but they're the only way to get really good. If you walk in, and they start you with sparring or other advanced stuff, its more interesting, but the teacher probably isn't very good.

  • Hey I got a Question.

Do You think that learning Long Fist will make me lose weight. Im not gonna lie thats the main reason im going to start doing it. Im goin to join an academy. Im going to do it for about 5 months. Please reply.

  • You'll loose fat, but you may gain weight. I gained 25lbs in 2 years doing this style, but I was a scrawny 140 when I started. You'll gain lots of muscle, esp in your legs, and you'll get big, but you'll definitely loose flab. If you really want to loose weight, kung fu is great, but I'd also mix it with toning, cardio and a good diet

  • Hey man, great job undertaking such study. Keep practicing and stay strong friend !

  • Wow! LongFist looks REALLY "long" when practiced by a tall, long limbed Westerner!

  • hey pimpinout!!!!!

Hell yeah long fist wether traditional or contemporary performance wushu will burn major fat and get you in serious shape with more overall athletic ability than most western sports could ever hope to. when done right it's about as physically challenging as ballet or gymnastics. And trust visigoth on the weight loss/ gain thing. I lost no joke 70lbs of fat. (I was morbidly obese) and gained 15 pounds of solid, solid muscle. its the way to go.

  • i think the last few of you asking questions need to ask yourself some questions. why do you really wanna learn kungfu its not a good way to kick ass and get the girl, if thats what u think good way to look like a tool and get into trouble. i suggest you all try breathing first.

  • if you're really practicing kung fu the right way you wont build bulk but muscle density. i've never seen a kung fu practitioner that's been doing it for 5+ years and is good that is very bulky. Usually very athletic and defined but not bulky at all. btw, dont lean over so much in your horse stance and relax your shoulders. I'm a practitioner of 5 years in northern shaolin gong fu, wushu, and chen style taiji quan.

  • @pimpinout1: You're talking SHIT!!! If you want to lose fat, so do something, where you surely KNOW that you're losing fat there. For example Jogging.
