Since my audio is pretty terrible, here's a written tutorial to help!:

Start by figuring out what length your tail is going to be.
Multiply this number by three. Yes, by three!
Cut out at least 50 pieces of yarn at this length. Then, tie them at one end, and begin to braid the strands.

Once you've done that, start wrapping another strand of yarn around your hand about 10 times, depending on how thick the yarn is. Cut the yarn at the top of your hand, so it turns out to be 10 half-cut pieces. Take these pieces, and tie a knot in the middle of them.

Start to brush out the yarn either side of the knot but leave ONE strand on each side, and do NOT brush them! I also use straighteners to make it softer while brushing.
Use the two non-brushed pieces, to tie the new fur to your braided tail.

Continue this process, and eventually (it will take a LONG time), you will have a lovely yarn tail!

Based on Bir's yarn tail tutorial, which can be found here: www.furaffinity.net/user/bir

This tutorial shows you how to make a yarn tail! You will need a lot of wool yarn, a pair of hair straighteners, a cat or dog brush and a lot of patience!

Sorry for the quiet audio - my video software isn't very good.
If I haven't explained something clearly, feel free to ask me any questions!

  • on the larger tail, do you add the fur tufts to evey strand or every braided section?

  • @TheDrangedKittyKat It would be best to do it every few strands, in my opnion!

  • ... I don't understand at all HOW to add different colors to it. TT.TT

  • @zadok1175 Um, you just use different coloured yarn. .w.

  • okies and how do make the knots on the fur tuffs small so they are huge and obvious as you sew/tie them to the base?

  • @xXDarkSoubiXx They don't become obvious when finished, because the tail will be so puffy. c:

  • How do you finish off the tail. Once you get tuffts attached all the way to the top knot?

  • are you there???? i need your helpppp please send me a message? :((

  • how much yarn is used for a tail that is a foot and a half long and has 3 inch 'fur' ?

  • Alright, so after I get done braiding it.... or braid to the end, what do i do? Tie the other side off. Which side do I attach the brushed yarn?

  • @xbitemyshark But what about on a long tail? Aren't you upbraiding it and brushing as you go along?

  • This is very helpful. =) I just wanted a tail for a shorthaired cat, so I was wondering how to make it, erm... not quite so fluffy. That thin base looks like it'll work perfectly for me.

  • So do you knot only one end of the braid or both??

  • This is really cool! Is there a link to Bir's tutorial as well? I can't find it on her page.

  • I wanna know how it turned out..

  • @LazyLupe

    I want pictures :DDD
