So let me get this straight, y'all voted to be a private association and now that the dam has failed, you want FEMAs help? Being a libertarian is easy until the SHTF.

The DNR? What a bunch of idiots. They are so dumb, they call a storm drain on the side of your house a navigable stream. LOL
-
Holding water back from it's natural flow with a dam may not be the best idea and reminds me of my business where corporations attempt to dam information that is better off where it is today. Too much money is spent building a 'dam' or data warehouse and forcing the flow into the dam and then finally hoping it creates something useful. Generally the cost is significantly higher that other simper approaches that would help out the people who might use the data or the water in a dam.

@srmccane Perhaps I'm mistaken, but it looks like the county road is on the dam?

I love reading how the dam failed, then people look at the footage and don't even realize that the dam is still there, what is missing is a "COUNTY ROAD" HELLOOOOOO!!!!! The people that run the dam can only drop it as far a the DNR will let them, Do you really think these people wanted their homes flooded and everything they own gone? Now they want to give the power of this dam to the DNR, how crazy is that? This lake has been here for years and I lived down at linden acres,
-
@MrLunk2 yeah, and nobody that lived right under the dam had flood insurnse (how eva u spell dat)
my bestfriend's grandpa and grandma live down there, so after like 4-5 days it had happened, we went down there, and a crain was supposed to go down there to take off their livingroom/sunroom but the road was to dangerous. their basement is no longer there, and it looks like a giant monster took a bite off of the door.
-
@thefedexpope Nobody in Delaware county could get flood insurance otherwise most probably would have it! Hell, I have it and really don't need it.

Where are all the looters and civil unrest!? Dammit....get Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton out there now!!!
My inlaws live in Linden Acres. They were told that the DNR would not let them open the dam gates all the way becuse they didn't want to loose too many fish. By the time they decided to raise the gates there was too much pressure against them and they would not go up. Is there any truth to that???

@nmbr3fan No idea on that...
But I asked myself a few times...
WHY dont dams like this have an emergency overflow ?
A place in the dam where in case of hi waters the water can safely flow over...
