Here it is, the world's most advanced micro jet. about 4.5" diameter and puts out roughly 100 lbs of static thrust. This is the 5 stage Bladon turbine. Can it fit in an rc jet? You bet it can. With twice the thrust. Can people afford it, well, pretty sure some can, but not many. All in all, this is an engineering marvel. The Bladon brothers took an axial-flow turbine and scale it down to rc jet standards. Simply Marvelous.

Currently, the turbine is only used by Jaguar automotive.

  • these guys are not interested in using these engines in the model industry.. I asked them via email about this engine but no go... Pity the euro and american market could sustain them more in hobbies then jaguar could......

  • @MegaChickhen ya, i know. i asked the ceo if he would at least be interested in a 3rd party, ie my company selling the turbines to the general market once stability/reliability was met. nope... not interested in any of that. makes no senses, 600-1000% more sales revenue then they currently make. he said the brothers who developed it, have sold a few hundred already into the rc community. seriously, if they had, i would have it already. he was just blowing smoke.

  • I can't believe I saw professional engineers standing directly in line with the blade disks of those compressor disks and turbine wheel when that engine was running -- especially as (given the blue flames exiting the tailpipe) the EGT was probably way too high for part of that run. Have these people never seen what a grenading wheel can do -- even a small one?

  • @xjet hey X. ya, i noticed that too. have seen a JJ explode in front of me. been overly cautious since then. i do understand one thing from this, because of the extreme velocity coming from the output, the temp is a bit lower. the cfm at 75% power, is about twice the p200. have discussed a few times with their ceo about making it available to the market. the main concern is the cost. this thing is off the wall expensive.

  • I would like to see the U.S Gov. take two of these engines, make a 1/2 scale F-22 Raptor, and use those in the middle east instead of actual pilots. A page out of the drone's book but a more forward role in the war.

  • don,t believe it,s running you would not stick your hand or face one metre away from a running kj66 it would burn it off,no safety glass,s or ear protection,not professional.lots of compressed air a little gas ,smoke and mirrors

  • ... I am sure You dont. What You can see instead is convergent exhaust nozzle that is used to do exactly opposite (jet engine). I have to say again I am impressed by their work and the engine looks great, still it doesn work... sorry. They talk a lot about their engine but again have you guys seen any other movie where it really worked apart from this poor movie?

  • ... Secondly You said that high gases velocity would be useless an poor indication. That is right. In turboshafts pressure drop on the turbine is increased. Gases are expanded below atmospheric pressure to achive more power on the turbine but behind turbine they must be compressed in diffuser to Patm again. Since there is no energy delivered in the diffuser increasing pressure leads to velocity drop. But hey take a look at the video again.. can you see there a diffuser???

  • To doktorbimmer. Hello friend. I paid attention a lot. Axial flow-compressor small jet engine is rare. Especially that small. I must correct you though. Axial turbine as you called it is only a part of the engine and what we see on the movie is the turbo jet (not working by the way). This is not a jet-engine electric generator. Firstly can You see there any shaft coming out of the engine for electric generator...???

  • Everyone here is missing the point. The unique feature of the Bladon gas turbine is that it has a multi-stage axial compressor instead of the centrifugal compressor common to all other miniature gas turbines so far.

    Engineers have dismissed axial compressors in miniature turbines as impossible/too difficult/expensive. A multi-stage axial compressor gives better pressure ratio and thus more power, or lower fuel consumption for the same power.

    The secret is in super-accurate machining.
