As many as 40 percent of all people with lupus, and as many as two-thirds of all children with lupus, will develop kidney complications. And heart disease is now a leading cause of death among people with lupus. So it was no surprise that a number of studies presented during the 2009 American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting in Philadelphia were about lupus-related kidney and heart disease.

In this installment, LFA's Senior Director of Government Relations and Public Policy Julie Venners highlights several significant studies and sessions on kidney and heart manifestations, potentially life-threatening complications of lupus.
