@S2RUF Hi Stu, the loop has been seeing a fair bit of use of late as i dont think the down main is in the best of nick with Wetspots and Tiebars!! I aborted filming tonight as its raining yet AGAIN (God i love wales) and there looks like there is problems with the signalling yet AGAIN at the south jcn with Network Rail S&T staff everywhere and slow running Valley Lines trains, so the Cwmbargoed workings will probably run late. I now remember why i have not filmed for so long!!
Quite rare to see a freight use the loop, most of the time they hold them at the bottom of the Cwmbargoed branch and then signal them straight onto the main. I think the signallers have to put a train through now and again - maybe once a week - to keep the points and signals for that loop free and working - just move the grease round a bit. Stu
