Your Daily Politics Video Blog: If you're desperate to be John McCain's vice presidential nominee, you better get on TV and start talking up the Surge as the single most important issue in this year's presidential campaign. And if you're serious about getting picked it wouldn't be a bad idea to say John McCain invented the idea of the surge and maybe even coined the word. In today's episode of TPMtv we check in on some of the wannabes to see just how bad they want it.

  • A few things that McCain has changed positions or lied about within the last month:

timetable for Iraq, whether he'd consider raising taxes, affirmative action, whether he'd run a negative campaign, whether the surge caused the Anbar Awakening, shifting troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, equal pay for women, his support for MLK Day.

That's 8. In just a MONTH. And none of them are personal attacks; I'm actually talking about issues. So what has Obama flipped on lately?

  • Paulginz, you are correct sir (in my best Phil Hartman impersonation)!

The UN didn't authorize the war and a majority of the UNSC opposed the resolution and within a month after withdrawing the resolution, Bush illegally invaded a sovereign country with manipulated anti-intelligence and the threat of impending "mushroom clouds." However, there is no denying Congressional and media complicity in the run up to the war.

  • To bad Mccain still has failed to recognize that we have not even declared war on any of the countries that we bomb and destroy every day. Nope America has not declared war on a country since WW2

  • Blah, blah, blah... At the end of the day, Obama won the election, so all ya'all can just shove it. The reduction in violence in Iraq is not because of the surge, but rather in spite of it. An overwhelming majority of people in Iraq want the U.S. troops out, and that is what Barack Obama understood when he opposed the surge.

  • I was wrong about the tax issue too, I re-red it a 3 time (my reading level 5th grade) and I realized Obama had the better plan for me.

  • I'm sorry I meant McCain does want to stay there, I believe he said 100 years. I voted for Obama after I saw that video where he said that. McCain is just a despicable politician, and I'm glad he lost.

  • What happened to banning me bitch hahahahahahahah

  • If the surge succeeded, why are we still in Iraq?

  • Mccain can't take credit for unpredictable things that happened,no one knew of the Sunni Awakening, the surge alone doesn't stop the violence.

  • Obama is a better candidate

  • Mccain is a third Bush term

  • McCain doesn't "want" to stay there, nobody does. But we can't leave until the job is done, that should be pretty clear to you and anyone else.

As for the Tax issue and 150-250k, I've got it saved at work, I'll post it in the morning, early. It's a good read and you would be doing yourself a favor by giving it a hard look. I didn't catch it at first, but after reading a few blogs by the experts, it was clear that there was a grey area there.
