Now that I'll be moving my garden and life out to LA, I think that I've gotten this worm composting thing down.

The fact that the worms are doing well is all peaches and cream, but I need to figure out how to get the worms out there as well. Getting the bin out there will be easy enough, but the worms could prove to be tricky.

Since my flight to LA is in the evening, I was planning on scooping up the worms before heading out the airport and putting them in a large coffee container for the flight.

Do you think this will work? What are your suggestions for shipping the worms?

  • You can do what the farm did that shipped to you. Either over night or Priority mail, pack with some bedding material in cotton bag/ contents moist/ not wet...will you have a container ready on the other side of the trip? :)

  • I picked them up from a local seller, so they were in an empty milk carton and I walked them home. It sounds like I'll just have to scoop them out of the current bin and put the contents into a coffee container or milk carton.

I am bringing the worm bin with me, so they'll have a place to stay once I arrive.

  • I'm getting a bit of a feeling that what with security issues and what not the Airport may give you more of a hassle over the worms than it's worth. Maybe call a worm selling business and ask them how you can fed ex them over night to your new home. Could be worth saving yourself the potential problems.

  • I plan on checking them not bringing them on the flight. Plus airport security is a joke. Last time they questioned my bag of sunflower seeds and walnuts, but didn't mention my razors.

  • Oh, you've GOT to be joking! I don't fly, I'm a feet on the ground type of gal but if I did Id be fed up with the airports stupidity by now. Whatever way you find to transport them Good Luck lol it would really suck if you went through all that and they died lol. Keep us updated ;)

  • Interesting thought. Like it. I'll have to see if I can find one that will be able to hold all of them (1lb of worms).

  • You could use a thermos to keep them cool and keep moisture in. Just a thought.

  • Thanks. Don't really want to go through the extra expense. I have room in my baggage, so I'm hoping to be able to fit them in there. I am more curious about what to pack/ship them in.

  • There is a shipping company and their motto is "We Ship Anything Anywhere". Is there a Pak Mail in your area? If so ship through them they may be able to help. ;)

  • Awsome I hope you film it! ;) and best of luck with that!
