12 hours a day or more gives green algae and less than that gives you brown algae...I have mine on about 8 hours each day.

@turdkurd12 fish don't need light. If you keep live plants, then they will require lighting. Don't worry your fish should be fine.

dose fish need light my betta don't need light he is still alive but with fishes can they survive with out light at night?
