well yeah, I don't want to give the impression that I'm overly knowing. just as you say: I only say what I mean... and music certainly is much about feeling anyway, which in turn is bound to be subjective in no small amount.

and after all: I do enjoy Steve's playing wholeheartedly every time I put on his CDs, watch his clips or whatever – he's so good that I wonder each and every time why he's not as well known as he deserves...

Enjoy Steve's playing and I only say what I mean....his style is rooted in a "southern rock"

Allmanesque treatment.....the processing of the guitar alone spells that out....Johnny had a "cleaner sound"

and also doubles on the Tricone Resonator for a "country delta" sound.....

The Allman sound still dominates the "toolbox" of most slide players out there....

well, I didn't actually mean that there's a distinct likeness to or even conscious emulation (as many less apt players might resort to) of Johnny Winter's playing, but I do in fact feel that every so often there is a sort of distant echo of Johnny's slide playing in Steve's style. just shimmering for a moment and then it's gone and it's different again. it's just an impression, anyway – maybe only Steve himself can tell what's really in there?

  • @vladgromek

sounds good but absolutelky no likeness to Johnny Winter...Johnny is more delta and articulates

    single notes much more.....

  • Yeah - he' s a great slide player and has quite a distinctive and fluent style (and sound) there. Different from "slide giants" like Sonny Landreth or Derek Trucks but really very good in his own right. Maybe a bit like Johnny Winter from way back some time? I'd really wish, too, there'd be some better quality vids of him around here.

  • By far my favorite guitar player. I wish there were some better films of him.

  • oui, j'adore joe perry aussi en slide!

  • Bien médiocre video (mais elle a le mérite d'exister) pour illustrer le talent d'une des plus belle voix du blues et un des maitres incontesté de la slide.
