This is an offshore aquaculture cage supported by the Cape Eleuthra Institute. They raise the Cobia here for food and research. There's between 1500-2000 fish in the cage and they're fed twice daily. Divers are cautioned against swimming underneath the cage (the bottom is in about 80 fsw) because the bubbles scare the fish and they will reportedly kill themselves trying to get out of the cage and away from them. We don't know if the lone cobia outside the cage escaped or is wild and just trying to join its friends. Those are two remora at the end of the clip looking for a home. They attempted to attach to several divers, heh.

  • What's the purpose of the cage? Is it to farm cobia or to create an environment for them?
