Battery technology will improve exponentially over the next 3 years. Range will extend to 1000 miles. I bet my car on it.

That's a short term view. In the long run, oil supplies will reduce offsetting the reduced oil demand. Also, you have to realize that more than 40% of oils' demand goes towards other uses than transportation and energy, so there'll always be that significant baseline of consumption which weren't not even going to come close to within the next decade.

just wait until the battery technology improves. Everyone thinks that gas prices will go back up to 4 dollars a gallon, but one thing that people don't realize that with the introduction of electric cars next year, people will use less and less gas causing gas to settle at a low price, and if this recession ccontinues it will only get better!

there is a thing called efficiency in scale. a big engine can be more efficient than two engines that sum the same output of the big one. even if the power plants contaminate to generate electricity, the contamination should be less than the generated by the equivalent petrol engines to generate the same amount of power as the electric ones. if we wait till all conditions are perfect and do not start with little steps, we may kept waiting
