There is no destruction involved in galactic collisions. Galaxies are, by far, mostly empty space. Next to nothing actually collides.

This is why I prefer British documentaries over American documentaries. American documentaries tend to be more about flashy animations and shock value than actual information.

This is misleading. They keep saying collision, but the distance between stars is so great there won't be any collision. The galaxies will pass through each other and finally merge into one giant elliptical galaxy.
