It's not a folk song. It was written by Robert Burns to mark his final separation from Nancy McElhose, his one true love, and published the same year. If anything it's an 18th-century 'pop song' - and this is an utterly murderous version of it. No genuine sense of emotional commitment from the performer and an utterly mechanistic accompaniment. It's a bloody lament, for Christ's sake!!

What? more likes than dislikes for this angelic voice? This song was the audition piece for either All-County or All-State chorus when I was in high school. For All-State, the choir director was a Scot, and I had a good laugh since I was one of the few in that lot who could follow her accent.
