My Problem With Hip Hop Radio

Since I was 17, I have paid less and less attention to the radio. At one point of time in my life, I remember being introduced to new styles of music by the radio. However, nowadays it seems as if that same type of music is consistently being looped. The most we get out of the radio these days are 12 songs that all sound alike. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have these songs, but when all you're playing is the same style of music you're doing it a disservice. I just want to hear something new from the radio, even if I dont like it, I just want my horizons expanded. People should know that they have other options aside from Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, and Drake. They should know of Little Brother, J.Cole, Atmosphere, Murs, and countless other artists who have to do things on their own to make a name for themselves because theyre not the type of music that the radio wants to promote. We could also use some more old school songs on the radio, and when I say old school I dont mean 2Pac. We should also introduce the younger generation to Spice 1, The Skinny Boys, NWA, Public Enemy, and Goodie Mob. They know nothing about the history of Hip Hop, and dont seem interested in caring to know. Even 2Pac said there aint nothing like the old school. Im just looking for the day when the radio can be innovative and versatile, not just like some old dude at the club doing the same ole two step.

I agree, my man. Radio shoves the same 15 songs into people's faces, til they believe it's as good as the puppeteers say it is. Radio worshipers will deny anything they hear that ISN'T played on the radio or DOESN'T have a music video. They're so used to having everything shoved down their throats to dictate what they should and shouldn't like, when they haven't even developed their own personal taste yet. They end up distrusting their own ears and are incapable of making their own decisions.

Here is one of the problems also though there is something called "Pay-To-Play" where a record company would pay a radio station in advance a certain amount of money to play a given song at a certain amount of times within a day...so you get the idea now it makes you wonder if this is taking place also with Hip Hop as well are record companies paying large sums of money to contiguously play artists like Lil Wayne? very scary huh!
