Last week, Japan surprised the world by announcing that it plans to abandon atomic energy completely by the 2030s. But now in an abrupt turnaround, the Japanese Cabinet appears to be backpedaling on that decision, dropping any mention of the 2030s deadline in its approval of Japan's new energy policy.

In case of JP, distance doesn't really matter, because the whole island is on lava, so, heat and pressure are already there. Then Wind... plenty of it, they could export it... also Sea, all around them. And sun... well it is called 'land of the rising sun... But i do agree we still didn't come to the end of the road and a lot needs to be discovered still. New energy source would be great, thou i wonder what negative effects will that bring...

Geothermal energy is great. And there's certainly potential for more of it to be used in Japan. But the problem is delivering the energy to where it's most needed. Distance from point of power generation is a major issue with conventional power transmission. Solar, wave, and to some extent wind energy generation are great, but aren't replacements for fossil fuels or nuclear power. What we need is new energy technology. And time is beginning to run out.

Well this is a clear example of the power of the nuclear lobby. They will not go quietly.

A rational global energy policy would dispense altogether with nuclear power; but profit has a distorting effect on reason; reducing it to the rationalisation.

Instead 'Just do it now, think later' should be 'Think now, do it later'...

Look liutasx i don't want to contradict You. I am just trying to add to Your arguments my own. I don't think You re completely wrong, but i do think You should inform Yourself better before claiming all that. Not all is bad. But not all is good either. The big problem is corruption, also lack of independent bodies involved in overseeing. Industry is in bed with private capital, military & back room deals hidden from public are huge risk factor. And of course they make bombs with waste leftovers.

0% chance of accident is a percentage of risk, on which the design of all reactors are licensed to operate. The reason is, that the risk involved with nuclear industry is to great to be insured by any insurance company in the world (not to mention not all is solvable with money). So the only who can pay for that (and also build them) are the taxpayers of the country that built it.The license issued was possible only on the behalf of the claim that reactors're 100% safe. Which u know they aren't.

Exactly, 300yrs is just too long for humans, as well is the solution that lasts for that long. Don't You agree with that?

Then look harder. I don't think that is a good reason enough to conduct anything. you don't seem brainwashed. But You do seem to propagate nuclear industry. Talk a bit about the negative aspects. If You worried about global warming i have 2 words for you 'nuclear winter'.

Like i said, not enough, no numbers.

GE - start with stealing of Tesla technology

    NRC - Dimona
