@sweetypie1988a Because in Smallville they didn't follow the comics. In the comics, the red kryptonite has random effects and every piece of red K will only affect Superman once.
For example, in the comics one time red kryptonite caused Superman to be evil, and there's a whole bunch a other efects: becaming a toddler, becaming a girl splitting in 2 Supermen (Superman Red and Superman Blue), losing his powers, changing color depending on his emotions,.....
The effects only last for 48 hours.
