The 2010 Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival has started off with a bang! Erik Goulet has created a truly a wonderful experience specifically geared to stop motion animation. As a stop motion animator myself I can genuinely say this festival has the right sort of hands on feel that you get from great stop motion work films themselves.
Barry Purves opened the festival by delivering a three and a half hour tour de force stop motion Master Class revealing the techniques and inspiration behind many of his masterpieces. It was a riveting presentation and even as Barry was bringing it to a close attenders called out for more.
After the Master Class everyone congregated around the cake table as Mr. Purves cut the celebratory cake. Erik Goulet was a gracious festival director throughout the event and made a point of remembering everyone's first name upon meeting them as well as making sure they had as much cake as they liked.
All in all it was a fantastic opening to a wonderful event and even though this was my first time meeting everyone involved I felt instantly at home. I can't wait to get back there later this afternoon to see more films!
Over and out! -Grayden Laing.
