A BBC documentary telling of the climbing history of The Eiger mountain. The Eiger (3,970 m (13,025 ft)) is a mountain in the Bernese Alps in Switzerland. It is the easternmost peak of a ridge crest that extends across the Mönch to the Jungfrau at 4,158 m. The northern side of the mountain rises about 3,000 m (9,800 ft) above Grindelwald and other inhabited valleys of the Bernese Oberland, and the southern side faces the deeply glaciated region of the Jungfrau-Aletsch, covered by some of the largest glaciers in the Alps.
Since 1935, at least sixty-four climbers have died attempting the north face, earning it the German nickname Mordwand, literally "murder(ous) wall".

  • if my memory serves me right i can remember a film made about a climb of a mountain im sure it was the eiger cant think who was in it wiki here i come peace out

  • @ododargo There is a Clint Eastwood film called THE EIGER SANCTION made in 1975. It is about a group of spies climbing the Eiger and one of them is perhaps a double agent?. I can't remember the film that well as it is a long time since i have seen it and don't think that it is very good.

  • @MrRhar1 There is also a German film, in English called "The North Face" i believe. great film about the climb in the 1930's

  • @drew19860 Yes i have seen that film and have it on my dvd shelf as i speak, but (in my opinion) they spoiled an otherwise riveting film by introducing a totally unnecessary, unfactual and pointless love story into the plot...which for me spoiled the reality of the film.

  • GREAT Vid!11 But imagine, from being considered unclimbable, the domain only foolhardy daredevils contemplated, to those first tragic, halting triumphs, to being surmounted in 2 hours and 47 minutes! A VERY engrossing, fascinating mix of technique, history, style, culture, romance, sport and imagination -- Excellant! Well-damn done, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

  • @starmanskye If you enjoyed this one......then i can also recommend THE BECKONING SILENCE by Joe Simpson..also available on YouTube ok ..do a search for it.. and thanks for the comment.

  • @LionTipu I'm sure the 60-odd people who've died trying to climb it.....might disagree with you ?

  • Messner and Habeler sprinted up this thing. They beat the record by like two or three hours. They did it with one hand tied behind their back. It was a joke to them............K2 is by far the biggest mountaineering achievement. It dwarfs everything else. Has K2 ever been attempted in the winter. Never been climbed. Messner said other than the falling ice which is a REAL problem...........the avalanches......it wasn't that hard.

  • @ododargo could also be a german film called "nordwand"

  • Jesus folks, an Eiger has stripes and lives in the jungle ! Get medications from a doctor, not off the street !

  • fantastic. i don`t climb any more, i can`t justify the risk now i have young daughters, but this makes me want to dig out my gear. onwards and upwards.

  • "magic potion strong enough to defeat the monster"

lol they took amphetamine! you'll have energy for +10 hours....not taking away anything from the climb I just think it's funny that they took amphetamine during such a crucial time

  • I watched this documentary 16 months ago and was terrified of heights at the time, I am now obsessed with rock climbing. Totally illogical I know, haha.
