It's called Corporate Media, and as long as the media has to sell itself like a product, and the more people do, as mentioned here, buy into soft news stories and make them a priority, we're going to keep getting it. Because it's easy, and it sells. It gets viewers.
As long as we have a SCOTUS that doesn't understand economics, and forces corporations into ALWAYS maximizing profit at the expense of morality, nor the purpose of having corporations, you're going to get waterskiing squirrels.

Unger has a good point. Fox News is not the biggest problem. Fox News is much less irrelevant than CNN and the other networks. Fox might be shocking, but it's not like the minority who watch Fox weren't gonna listen to propaganda somewhere else if Fox went away.
Meanwhile, the other 70% of the country are being brainwashed into thinking nothing important is going on in the world, or the country, other than Obama's birth certificate and the occasional natural disaster or war.
