Mahalo's expert chef Jennifer Martello shows you how to decorate pumpkin cupcakes.
Decorative
pumpkin cupcakes may be needed for a school activity, community festival or a Halloween party. These pumpkin cupcakes can offer a special holiday treat for the young, or the the young-at-heart. Just as Jack-O-Lanterns can be crafted with different shape faces and levels of scariness, you can modify these suggested decorating methods to suit your personal preferences. These pumpkin cupcakes are suitable as a project for older children who can handle a sharp knife on their own.
Before you start decorating your cupcakes, gather all your supplies. You will need vanilla cupcakes,
vanilla icing, food coloring, soft chocolate and lemon chews, a rolling pin, a cutting board, a sharp knife and two small bowls.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4emjlRsWN4 You can opt to purchase pre-made cupcakes, or make vanilla cupcakes from scratch.
Step 1: Frost Cupcake
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Add food coloring to your vanilla frosting until you have an orange, pumpkin-colored frosting. Place the frosting into a piping bag. Frost your cupcake using vertical stripes to create the ribs of the pumpkin. You can also place one circular ring of frosting around the outside ring of your cupcake to finish covering the surface.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4emjlRsWN4
Step 2: Create Facial Decoration
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Take the chocolate and lemon candy chews and roll them flat. Place them in a microwave for 5 to 10 seconds to make them more flexible. Place a flat chocolate chew on a cutting board. With a sharp paring knife or X-Acto knife, cut out triangular eye and nose shapes. Cut out a mouth in whatever shape you would like. Place these shapes to the side, then repeat the same shapes with the yellow chew candy. Make the yellow shapes slightly smaller than your chocolate shapes. Place the yellow pieces on top of your chocolate shapes. This yellow highlighting will appear like light peering out of your pumpkin.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4emjlRsWN4
Step 3: Assemble Cupcakes
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Place the eyes, nose and mouth decorative pieces on top of your frosted cupcake. Take one of the chocolate chews and twist it to create a pumpkin stem. You can break off the ends of the chew if needed. Place the twisted chew at the top of your pumpkin face to complete your pumpkin cupcakes.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4emjlRsWN4
