SPECIAL THANKS TO YOUTUBE USER: "flannmann", because: I went out to get the Lake Shore after seeing his video hoping the consist (sans engines) would hold thru Rensselaer.

Amtrak train #48, the Chicago to New York City "Lake Shore Limited" blows past a Metro North local train as the local attempts to stop at Ossining, NY. The two trains left Harmon more or less side by side, and 'raced' each other to Ossining where the local had to stop to perform station work.

Note that #48 is hauling an extra Viewliner sleeper, which appears to be in service (even if only as a full crew dorm). Otherwise this is the normal consist (however additional cars are usually handled on the rear of the train)...

The description of the video says "Amtrak train #48, the Chicago to New York City "Lake Shore Limited" blows past a Metro North local train as the local attempts to stop at Ossining, NY. The two trains left Harmon more or less side by side, and 'raced' each other to Ossining where the local had to stop to perform station work."

but I mean thats just what's written in the description, it doesn't likely describe the video, its probably just useless babble..........

  • I rode a night time Budd car that chose to race Amtrak, Croton to Poughkeepsie. Weird. We bounced up and down, lurched side to side, watching the Albany bound Amtrak creep ahead, then behind. Before we bonked off the rails, the Amtrak put the pedal to the metal and lept ahead and out of sight. This was sometime in the mid seventies.

  • the 4 train at kingsbridge once overran
