(The video lags the sound a bit; don't know why, didn't happen before with my set-up.)
My first Loop Length 16 attempt: anything I record, I can't take it back! It's not a documented feature, but if you want Loop Length 16, hold the Loop and Tap/bpm buttons down when you turn on the power switch. You will see "dLy". Then hold Loop and press Tap/bpm, you can now dial the loop length up to 16. But there is no recording buffer or "fixing" any more. Anything you record stays.

The "Arp" refers to the Gate Arpeggiator, the button at the bottom of the unit that plays a rhythm pattern (G.37) when you hold your finger down on the pad. Here I add melodies which are pentatonic scales removed by a fifth from the base key (F Ionian), so you will hear most melodies in C Major Pentatonic. Also I try some loop cuts and a two-finger method. The kaossilator only plays one note but takes the average of the two fingers. This has the effect of stretching the pad surface so only half as many octaves are in the range for L.07 (Wide Saw Lead). That way, I have more control.

But it's hard for me; the pad is small and my fingers are big. You have to be willing to -- EMBRACE THE KAOSS!

But the Kaossilator Pro (3 lbs and about double the price) is REALLY something!
The Kaossilator 2, the upgrade of the handheld Kaossilator, is coming soon in 2012!

HALL OF FAME:

Okay, I am a tiny worm, new with a Kaossilator, not a professional musician. Please have a look at a few REALLY GOOD players:

  • What's the difference between this Kaossilator and the yellow one?

I thought this one was only for sound effects.

    Awesome music by the way.

  • @206Nish This special edition pink Kaossilator is exactly the same as the yellow Kaossilator. It was made in limited numbers but is not selling well, so I got it for $40 less than the yellow. They are IDENTICAL, so go figure the krazy Kaoss economics!

You are thinking of the miniKaoss Pad (miniKP) which is black front with red buttons and trim. The miniKP is a sound and effects processor; it hardly makes any sound of its own. Check out the Kaoss products at korg(dot)com.

  • @206Nish ...and I'm not too proud of this musical piece except it's my first 16-beat loop-mode. My best video so far, with oodles more hits, is "Dark Taxi".

  • why would someone want to learn something like this? get a real life and learn a real instrument

  • @floortileproductions Okay, I'm sorry, I was out of line. My original comment is erased. I admit it's not my best piece, "Dark Taxi" is. Maybe this instrument is too miniaturized, looks like a toy. The Kaossilator Pro came out this year and fills in many limitations of the original.

But there's something nice about the "direct feel" of the Kaossilator. Dial one of the quality Korg synth sounds, move your finger up and down for immediate effects, moving from side to side normally is notes.

  • Wow, no comments yet. Possibly not such a good example of play. My video "Dark Taxi" was much better.
