Date: 1969. Chomsky was a guest on William Buckley's show. This is how guests are treated.

  • Buckley's the only man who could ever threaten to punch you in the face and sound absolutely adorable while saying it!

  • @Anonymous61771520 He says people should be less tolerant of bad decision making by their leaders. He finds the public's patience or open-mindedness terrifying. But should we be less tolerant of Democrats, or less tolerant of Republicans? We're back where we started, trying to determine who's right. All I can conclude is that Chomsky wants less quiet discussion and more loud arguing. Even better: less loud arguing and more violent revolution. But, somehow, always in the correct direction.

  • @knvjazz Well I appreciate your balanced approach. Well said.

  • @knvjazz Rush Limbaugh is another republican that I listened to for 20 years on TV & radio. I hate the man, and I must say now that Rush is curious George to Williams War & Peace, it is too bad that Buckley erred on the side of war too often. I am NO republican, but when it comes to people that can hurt me or have the influence on others to hurt me, I tend to keep my enemie

  • @gnomechomskylives Yes Buckley was an important voice, unfortunately not a very positive one for the average american or vietnamese. I used to watch him religiously on Firing Line, and enjoyed him immensely. He was brilliant, witty, and funny. Still, I stand by what I said.

  • @knvjazz Dude... I'm an unabashed Liberal and despite some of his less than classy moments, there is a lot to like about Buckley. Especially when you compare him to today's rabid, John Birch society types that have taken over the movement. Buckley was definitely wrong about Vietnam but that doesn't mean he wasn't an important voice in the debate.

  • @Elmore3141 I agreed with your comment until the part about violent revolution. In all the writings & interviews & lectures, not once - ever - has he called for any violence. What Chomsky wants is an empowered community / nation of individuals who demand accountability from their leaders. Chomsky's ethos has always been to lift the veil of duplicitousness & double standards which so many in the general public have accepted without questioning them.

  • Jesus. What a moron.

  • @icarus313 Well, he sounds absolute, I'll give ya that.

  • @lnvjazz-Ah, but to say such a thing is, by definition, 'nasty, brutish, and short'; to quote Hobbes (Leviathan).

One should never revel in the passing of a worthwhile adversary, for by such we measure our own mettle...

  • William Buckley is brilliant & so is Noam Chomsky, but Buckley is dead and the world is a much better place because of that fact. I say this not to be nasty, just to say that much of what he believes in about the war in Vietnam & the class war in the US, he would not believe in if he was the recipiant on the other side. Now go ahead all you assholes who can't understand what I said, and lash out at me, and try to say something brilliant.
