This drill is a good drill to use with younger players to help them to get a better picture of whether or not they are shooting the ball straight. It has an added benefit in that it can help with a lack of baskets for youth league or select team practices. If you only have one or two baskets, you can rotate so that some players are shooting at the basket and the others can do the shoot on the line drill. If you only have one or two coaches, it is tough to do stations, and this type of mass drill can help the coach keep all of the players working on the skill of shooting at the same time.

The idea is to stand on one of the out of bounds, ten second, lane lines, etc... and shoot the ball as if the player was shooting at the basket. The player must imagine the 10 foot height (or lower if you are coaching younger ages with lower baskets) and shoot with that arc. If you have pairs, the partners shoot back and forth to each other, allowing the ball to land and judging if it is on line, left, or right. As in all technique shooting drills, it is imperative that the players use correct shooting form.
