In Christian News is Closed Captioned for the Hearing Impaired.

Today, In Christian News...

In Atascadero, California....

With gas prices continuing to rise, and burdening the nation and the world, one local church reaches out to his fellow struggling man.

On Saturday, Dove Creek Church, a church of the Nazarene, in Atascadero, California held their second "Gas Buy Down" Event, helping consumers to save 25 cents per gallon.

Lead pastor of the church, Dave Curtiss, was quoted as saying: "We expect nothing in return. We just want to give a gift to the community...Our church has a heart for people that are struggling."

From 10am til noon, volunteers from the church pumped gas, checked oil and tire pressures, cleaned windshields, and most importantly, provided a small amount of financial relief to the customers of the Tesoro Service Station in Atascadero.

"We decided this would really be a great way for our church to make a difference, [with] no expectations of anybody," said Eric Dobler, one of the events organizers.

In Cairo, Egypt....

65 Christian protestors, who are protesting religious tension and violence in Cairo, were injured, according to officials on Sunday.

The protesters were holding a sit-in outside of the state television building in Cairo for several days following Christian-Muslim clashes that left a church burned and 15 dead.

It is estimated that over 100 anti-protestors rushed the sit-in area, using rocks and fire bombs as weapons.

Medics said 2 of the 65 injured are in critical condition. The security official states that nearly half of the riot instigators were arrested.

Religious clashing and crime waves are proving to be a major challenge for Egypt's military, following the nearly 3 week uprising that led to the February 11 removal of ex-President Mubarak.

In Pueblo, Colorado...

This past week, Local Presbyterian pastors were unanimous in their opposition to changing national church policy regarding ordination of homosexuals. The pastors believe Amendment 10-A will further fracture the church, which has been split over the issue for decades.
Amendment 10-A allows individual churches to exercise "local option," which at some churches would open the door to openly gay clergy and lay leaders.

First Presbyterian and Westminster, two of Pueblo's Presbyterian churches are members of Presbyterian Church USA, which approved the amendment Tuesday.

Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church in Pueblo West is associated with Presbyterian Church in America.

Reverend Mark Spellman, a pastor of the Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church, says Amendment 10-A illustrates further why the Presbyterian Church in America was founded in 1973.

Reverend Brad Munroe of Pueblo's First Presbyterian Church, who voted against the amendment, but said he was willing to accept the majority vote and move on, was quoted as saying, "Maintaining mutual forbearance...will require reaffirming core values, foremost among them a vow to "look at each other through the eyes of Jesus. I choose to define people by their humanity rather than their sexuality. I believe this is the way Jesus sees everyone: in our humanity, with all our brokenness and giftedness. I voted against Amendment 10-A, but I did so with the passionate conviction that God loves our brothers and sisters who happen to be gay, no more, no less, in the same way he loves our brothers and sisters who happen to be 'straight.'"

Vatican City, Italy...

The Vatican informed bishops around the world today it is important to cooperate with police in reporting priests who have inappropriate sexual relations with children. Bishops have been asked to develop guidelines for preventing sex abuse by next May, as prescribed in a letter letter from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

The letter is the latest effort of the Vatican to show it's seriousness about the issue of priestly pedophiles, the removal thereof, and preventing abuse in the future, following the continuing global abuse scandals.
