Steve Tibbetts, "Ur"

Dallo stupendo album "Yr" (1988), ECM 1355. Pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1980 questo disco e' il punto di partenza ideale per cominciare ad esplorare il mondo musicale e la straordinaria tecnica di questo chitarrista. In "Yr" si fondono i suoni di almeno tre continenti, America settentrionale e meridionale (chitarra elettrica e marimba), Africa (bongos) e Asia (tabla) in una miscela elettrizzante di forza primordiale! Notevole il lavoro alle percussioni di Marc Anderson, fedele collaboratore di Tibbetts. Un capolavoro sconosciuto da scoprire! Stretto parente di "Yr" e' "Exploded View" del 1986, un altro emozionante viaggio musicale.

I found the independent pressing of this at the Hennepin County Library in Bloomington in 1980-1981 or so. It's got a different mix than this version - it lacks Bob Hughes driving bass parts. I recorded it on cassette. Different flavor than the ECM version but both still cool.

This album came out in 1980--used to play it on my college radio shows all the time--nothing else like it. His first one in 1977 is great, too, but pretty hard to find.
