well hahaha i performed salpury again and i learned the meaning of the dance

in the beginning, the dancer is in mourning for someone or people who died an unfair or unjust or just indescribly horrible death

she does not understand, she is fustrated, sad, depressed, and just confusedd she doesnt know what to do because she is so mad and sad at the same time

but when she lets go of the towel and at 1:50 this is when she lets go of the death. "sal" in korean means death "pury" means to let go :]

The movement and presence of this dancer impressed me greatly until the end---when I saw her toe-pivoting instead of heel-pivoting----one of the greatest "bones of contention" in the so-called modernization of Korean dancing is precisely the gradual loss of the art of heel-pivoting, giving way to the easier and seemingly more impressive westernized toe-pivoting, which saddens many old guards like my teacher, the famous Miyoung Kim in Canada.

"sal" doesn't mean death. It means "evil spirits" or "bad influences." Puri is a specifically shamanistic term meaning "shaman rite" or "exorcism." So this is an exorcism dance. Just to clarify your terms

살은 고유어가 아니라 한자어 煞임... 저주, 액운, 동티를 나타내는 뜻..'급살(急煞 )맞다'라는 말은 '예기치 않은 저주로 액운이 닥치다'는 의미, 원래는 꼭 죽음을 의미하지는 않았음.... 국어사전 찾아보면 바로 나옴..영어사전뿐만 아니라 국어사전도 가까이 했으면... 한국사람이라고 한국어 제대로 아는 것 아님..

"살 sal" 이 죽음을 의미하기도 하지만.

"살 sal"은 "한 han" 을 의미하기도 합니다.

요즘 정서로 표현하면.

죽도록 사랑을 했는데 끝내 사랑을 이루지 못하고 죽은 여인이 있다면

그여인의 "한" 을 풀어주기 위해서 "살풀이" 를 하는 겁니다.

"살풀이는 무속 의식(巫俗儀式)에서 을 풀어낸다는 뜻인 곧, 살(煞)을 푸는 춤으로 일명 도살풀이라고도 한다"- you are talking about this chinese character. but resolving the harmful elements [액(厄)] cannot be equated with exocism. exocism means expelling demons.
