Driving down the hill from the main gate of MCAS Futenma to Camp Foster, and to the on-base drive-thru of Burger King (in part 2) during the summer of 1987.

Part 2

***NOTE: NO AUDIO***
Sorry, but "copyrighted music" was playing during the drive. I thought it was better to share the video with no sound, than take a chance of the whole thing getting removed.

If you would like to play your own car driving tunes to accompany this vid ,go ahead, but for real authenticity nothing that came after the Summer of 1987!

  • Love to see the other vids. I was stationed on Okinawa from 1982-1983 at Camp Kinser. I had an apartment on Hywy 58 right below MCAS. I was next to Maranatha Baptist Church. I think my old apartment building was on the right at 2:04 in the vid.

    Thanks

  • The church name you mentioned sounded familar and at first I thought about another church on the left at 2:32, but I can see that it is the Bethel Mission Church. I always remembered it because of angled front and the big cross.

Glad you and others are enjoying the walk down memory lane. I had a feeling that if I was looking for clips of OKI from the 80's, others would be looking too, and I might as well share mine.

  • Had an accident there with an lvs with less than 30 days on the island left in 89.The dump truck driver was a little upset i did'nt stick around.Mirrors are cheap.

  • I can still remember how little space there was between lanes on the roads and highways on Oki, especially when you had two large vehicles next to each other like a local bus and a M35 "deuce and a half" truck.

I recall being in a M35 in South Korea on small mountain highway, and totally destroying an oncoming passenger bus side mirror with our own. Our mirror survived without a scratch. We actually saw their whole side mirror falling off the bus and hitting the pavement. SMACK! CRASH! LOL!

  • This is insane! I was there from 05 to 08 and from what I can tell not a lot has changed. I was stationed up at Camp Schwab. Good memories.

  • Great memories. I just wish I was able to tape this on a less cloudier day, so it would be much easier to see everything. Those incoming & outgoing typhoons have a way of really messing with the sky.

That is so funny. I've done the same thing, on an M-923 on Okinawa.

  • I was stationed at MCAS Futenma from 2002 to 2004. I sure miss Okinawa sometimes. Thanks for posting this. It's interesting to see how it looked back then.

  • Just left in 2007 and truly nothing has changed except the wear and tear on the buildings.

  • Right outside Foster Gate 1....Popeye's rice shack...to the south of that was a little bar called WBL, spent many nights there drinking Mojo.....90-94

  • Hey, thanks for posting that. I was stationed there as a young Marine 82-83. When you got to the bottom of the hill to 58, there was David's Taylor across the street :25sec thru1:45sec. I got my dress blues made there and still have them with the tag on the inside that says " David's Taylor". I am amazed that the place looks the same. I'd love to visit Okinawa again someday. I remember a restaurant down the road on the left called the "House of Kitchens" Thanks for the memories, and "semper fi"

  • Hey brother, I was taioned at Camp Hansen from 91-94. I was with Electro Ordnance Maintenance Co, 3rd FSSG. Had some good times there. Semper Fi!

  • I was there from Oct 86 to Oct 87. I DON'T MISS THAT PLACE. Well just maybeb a little bit of BC street or kin ville.

    Semper Fi

  • With thousands of Marines slated to be moved from Oki to Guam in the next few years, it might not look the way we remember it for too much longer.

But, no matter what happens, we'll always have our pics, vids and memories.
