These commercials aired on NBC on October 2nd, 1982

1. News4LA Update
2. Norton Simon Museum (With Candice Bergen)
3. Social Security Teleclaims
4. Carpeteria (Nice pants)
5. Mischa's Restaurant & Cabaret
6. Carpeteria (She looks like somebody's mistress)
7. Alcoholism Councils of Los Angeles County PSA (I think this ad actually *caused* more drinking than it prevented it)
8. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints PSA (Because Mormons are totally hip with the young people)
9. Foundation for Children with Learning Disabilities PSA
10. Forest Service PSA (Fire: The untamed element, oldest of man's mysteries. Giver of warmth, destroyer of forests. Right now this commercial is on fire!)
11. Nursing Has Changed PSA
12. LA County Animal Care & Control PSA (If you don't have a dog you'll be murdered by thieves in the night! Dogs protect you from DANGER. Don't walk, RUN! to your nearest animal shelter)
13. High Blood Pressure PSA (The most funkadelic song about high blood pressure I've ever heard)
14. Promo for "News Conference '82"

  • The Mormons really pull out all the stop when it comes to advertising...where do they get all their money from?

  • @Clay3613 Magic golden plates.

  • ahh, yes. i'm sure many people remember the poisonous Tylenol "capsools" w/ fondness

I loves me some PSAs. but this is a lot of them, is this all during one program?

why was candace bergen advertising for a museum?

Carpeteria lady looks like either a displaced Solid Gold dancer, or an out-of-work hooker. (look @ those nails!)

who knew there were actual local commercials f/ Hollywood?!

that alcoholism PSA has some explemary acting

those Mormons were some AMAZING glasses

  • @blugreen123 These aired during a rebroadcast of the news at 2:30 AM, hence all of the local ads and PSAs.

  • Poor choice of words in that Forest Service PSA. The ones with the brains? I guess the animals in the forest don't have any.

  • @OzzieAstaroth Not really worth getting offended over. "Brains" is commonly used in a non-literal sense. Animals generally cannot manipulate fire and therefore do not have the "brains" to start a forest fire.

  • @lisamaria1972 that was Stella Nickell who planted the poison Excedrin on the shelves after she poisoned her husband with the poison to cover up her killing her husband. She also killed another woman who bought the tainted excedrin. she got 90 years in jail for it.

  • A couple of days after this, Johnson & Johnson would issue a national recall of Tylenol. Given that the first death had happened only a few days before, that's remarkably fast.

I know when I go out for fine dining, I want to sit in a tiny closet.

I think the Mormon PSA is the only ad in this entire set that cost more than $10 to make.

I'm fairly certain the guy in the pet adoption PSA played the governor on Benson.

Just how many people stick entire full saltshakers in their lunchboxes?

  • @kari00ws6 Given that LA has a surplus of out-of-work actors, you would think that even the makers of a low-budget PSA could afford to hire three competent ones.

  • @lisamaria1972 No that was a later case. The police think the woman got the idea from the original Tylenol poisoning case from 1982.

  • Ohmigod, that anti-drinking ad. So many laffs.

  • First of all I would like to say that you did an incredible job showcasing all these 80's commercials. As a person who grew up in the 70's and 80's in socal, it was a pleasure watching them again and reminiscing.

I would like to reiterate what TerryT1976 said in that this is "Retro SoCal heaven"

I thought I would never see the Norton Simon Museum commercial again. (Still knew most of the words)

    Thanks for the uploads!!!!

  • the one ad about animals has not changed much i know my dogs go nuts when some one is at the door they will not let you in one else you live there. the one at the end about stress well they do not see how bad things are today compared to the 80's and well look at them there working.

  • wasnt the tylenol scare because a woman poisoned her husband with a tylenol capsule and then tried to hide it by putting the same poisoned tylenols back on the shelf? Crazy stuff!!
