We visited the memorial on a nice day in June and were very impressed with not only the memorial and its staff but with all of the grounds including the cemetery that has the grave of my great grandfather. The trenches and tunnel tour is a must see (on another video posting) It really gives some insight into how it must have been those many years ago...

  • Very nice tribute.

Was A.C. Osborne also from the Clinton area. My family bearing the same last name resides in the North Bay area.

  • @mosborne1627 - sorry for the slow response. My Great grandfather was from the County of Perth. He lived in Fullarton Township and Stratford.

  • didn't they carve all of the mens names that died in the battle?

  • Carved on the walls of the monument are the names of 11,285 Canadian soldiers who were killed in France and whose final resting place was then unknown

  • I have a son that is 14.

Unfortunately we went on a day when there was no RCMP. It must have been something to see when the rededicated the memorial.

    Have you seen the tattoo?

  • NICH MARK DO YOU LIVE IN REGINA CANDINA

  • I live in Ontario, Canada

  • Hi,

Thanks for posting this great video! A great uncle in the family fought at Vimy Ridge and died on June 3thd, 1917--Been thinking about obtaining his service records to determine whether or not there is information pertaining to the circumstances of his death.(since we do not know precisely where or how he died)He was born in 1897 in Scotland and emmigrated to Canada in 1907,one year after his eldest sister.Just hearing that bagpipe rendition of the 'Maple Leaf Forever' brings me to tears.

  • thank you for posting your video. i also lost my great grandfather to the battle at Vimy Ridge. proud to be a Canadian.

  • I'm in the British Army myself and in basic training we got taken here as part of a 'Realities of War' tour. I've seen a lot of memorials but this one with its size, scale and setting is just humbling. Never Forget.

  • @Philly2002

The song is "The Maple Leaf Forever", an early contender for the National Anthem - but the lyrics are way too British. Still whenever there is a military march we march to "The Maple Leaf Forever

  • Name of song, please?

  • @mitchellfromclinton about 600,000 men went over and 1/10 never came back...lest we forget.

  • My husband was in Vimy in 2007. His Uncle, who was 16 at the time, fought and lost his life to a cause which holds historical significance even today. He was buried in the Cemetary, where he lay now forever 'Dreaming of Home'

  • nevermind i know what it's called :P
